If we didn’t like change…
- We wouldn’t look forward to summer.
- There would be no dating apps.
- People would not look for better jobs.
- No one would immigrate.
- There would be no protests.
- We would all be using landlines and phone booths.
- I could not purchase a lavender chai with cinnamon.
- Parents would never save for their children’s education.
- We would still be using Windows 2.11.
- Cancer research would end.
- No one would have paired chicken with waffles.
I could go on.
Yes, some of these are intended to be humorous, but many are not. We progress because of change. We achieve more only with change.
I hate it when individuals say, “People don’t like change.” That’s a lazy line. It’s not change that people resist. It’s the unknown; the fear of failure; leaders with no credibility; the pain that accompanies the journey; their past experience. Yes, these can be obstacles, but when has that stopped us before?
We like change. We love change! The difference between resistance and embracing change is often one of perspective and it’s leaders that make the difference!
Challenge your team today:
- What are all of the positive changes that you’ve embraced over the last three years?
- How many of them seemed daunting at the time?
- How many turned into something incredible?
If we didn’t like change…you wouldn’t be reading this blog. 🙂
Thoughtfully yours,
Jeff
