Change Metaphor Mashup

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a river! It’s a metaphor for change!

Images and stories are a powerful part of communicating the reality of change. Metaphors about what the future will look like and what will happen along the way reassure stakeholders that there is a plan, and they can get through it OK.

But what form should a story take? Picking the right metaphor is important. Would a list of great options help? Here are a few.

1. Walking through IKEA
If you’ve ever been to IKEA you know that the store is set up to force you to walk through almost every section. Each section corresponds to an area of your home. Applying that to change, stakeholders journey through various aspects of the change, adding knowledge, skills, and experiences to their “cart” until they reach the end, fully equipped for the road ahead.

2. Metamorphosis: Just like a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, change often involves a radical transformation from one state to another.

3. Seasons: Change mirrors the cycle of seasons, with each phase bringing its own challenges and opportunities, but ultimately leading to growth and renewal.

What about a marathon? Moving through the chapters of a book as suggested by Rasha Ba Haroon? Or, Tammie Ray’s idea of navigating uncharted waters?

There are so many options, so I have something special for you today. I’ve collected the best ideas in this FREE DOWNLOAD (email required to confirm subscribers).
